Brilinta

People who have had acute coronary syndrome use Brilinta to help prevent a heart attack or unstable angina. Ticagrelor reduces platelet clumping and so helps prevent dangerous clots, the Brilinta consumer medicine information says.

Brilinta must not be used with bleeding problems such as a bleeding stomach or intestinal ulcer, with severe liver disease, after a haemorrhagic stroke, or together with ketoconazole, clarithromycin, nefazodone, ritonavir or atazanavir.

The risk of bleeding is increased, especially during surgery and dental procedures, and NSAIDs, some anticoagulants and SSRIs raise it further. More than 10% of users experience shortness of breath, and the heartbeat may slow or become irregular. Before stopping Brilinta, talk to your doctor.

The leaflet asks for storage below 30 °C in the original blister, away from moisture and heat. Follow the storage directions on the pack you receive.
